Fundamental Fundoshi

Something fundamental is not just something primary or foundation -- your "fundament" is literally your buttocks!  Kind of gives new meaning to fundamentalism.

Not to suggest fundoshi is fundamentalist, rather to point out a forgotten meaning of the word and to suggest that a fundoshi be the foundation of your daily wear.

Some great photos! However, the plain white doesn't do it for me. I like the colors and patterns much better! Especially purple or shades of thereof! F4A is fabulous!

My personal all-time favorite color for fundoshi is sky blue, but I love the "mameshibori" navy-on-white dot pattern, black, and olive almost as much. I will say that I really like white, too, but I think some of it depends on the skin tone it's contrasting with. The brighter the white, the better!

Hi. I've been wearing fundoshi for about 2 years now. My fundoshi always ends up being a little tight at the waist. Is that how your fundoshi fits too?
BTW love your blog! Keep up the good work.
I am in college and because of fundoshi, I rarely run out of clean underwear :P

I've experienced what you're describing, and I think it has something to do with gravity: over the course of a day of standing and walking, our spines contract and our bodies get a little wider. At night while we are sleeping our bodies relax and resume their full height. Two ways to minimize this -- try tying your fundoshi with the waistband laying as flat as you can (no twist), or sometime in the afternoon you can loosen/re-tie your fundoshi to be more comfortable.

(It's the one drawback of the basic fundoshi tie being so secure -- it's SO SECURE!)

How does wearing fundoshi fit in with the college experience for you? Does it raise any eyebrows, or do people seem open to it?

Thank you so much for enjoying the blog!
